Congratulations to our new president, Robin Judd, who succeeds Julia Hill-Nichols, our president of the past two years. In the ceremonial passing of the baton, Julia and Robin shared the following:
Julia: As with any enduring institution, current leadership stands on the shoulders of past leaders. The League of Women Voters is an enduring institution of the Lower Cape Fear community, originally established in 1972. Over the years, we have experienced both challenges and successes, yet today we stand stronger and more resilient than ever, steadfast in our mission to Empower Voters and Defend Democracy. Looking ahead, we will undoubtedly face new challenges, and I am confident that Robin Judd, our new President and the newly appointed Board of Directors will rise to meet them. I believe they are up to the task and will in fact, exceed our expectations – increasing both membership and the League’s capabilities, dedicated to supporting a just community. The League of Women Voters – an institution worthy of our pride and that of the Lower Cape Fear community. I look forward to supporting Robin and our Board. It has truly been an honor and privilege to have served such an exceptional group of people. "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, concerned citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." — Margaret Mead Robin: Julia Hill-Nichols, with her leadership, has brought our chapter miles in the past two years. I know we are all grateful that she will continue to offer her insight and steadying hand as Vice President of the upcoming board. As Julia mentioned, we have met and overcome many challenges over the years. In the next two years, we will continue to encounter new obstacles to voters’ rights and our constitutional freedoms, added to the current challenges we have already seen. But I know we will meet those issues head on. There is an old African proverb that says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” From the minute I joined, I have been in awe of the way the League of Women Voters of Lower Cape Fear pulls together to get things done. And I know, as a group, we will continue to get things done. And we will continue to go far together.
